S. Miguel Island - Azores

Thanks to Carlos Silva:
S. Miguel Island - Azores.

The Archipelago of the Azores is composed of nine volcanic islands situated in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean approximately 1500 km from the European coast and 3900 km from the North American coast.
Due to the geographical location of the islands they are divided into three groups based on their relative proximity: the Eastern group including Santa Maria and São Miguel, the Central group including Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial and the Western group including Flores and Corvo. The minimum distance between two islands is 6 km (Pico and Faial) and the maximum distance, approximately 600 km, divide Santa Maria and Corvo.

São Miguel, also known as the green island, due to the abundance of pasture and forest covered peaks, is the largest and most enchanting islands on the Azores. On São Miguel you can spend as much time as you have. The nature is so beautiful, and does encourage for tours and for walks. In the summertime the landscapes full of flowers. If you want to " see it all ", you must stay for a longer period. The island is about 65 x12 km. São Miguel would be a natural start on a holiday on the Azores. About 140.000 people live on Sao Miguel.

I have received that post card myself! And I have swam in that pool. It is filled by a hot spring and is considered beneficial to your health thanks to the mineral water.

It is in a beautiful park called Terra Nostra Park in the town of Furnas.

    Cool site by the way!
    Rob
PS I wrote about Furnas here: Furnas, Sao Miguel, Azores. the picture at the bottom is facing where the picture on the postcard was taken. Cool eh?
